Know I have been kind of MIA the past few weeks. Things have just been crazy, and are just now starting to kind of get back to normal. Started with Rider suddenly and unexpectedly passing away on Sunday June 8 from what we think must have been a arterial thromoembolishm (ATE). Have had Rider since I adopted him from the Coppell Animal Shelter August 2006.
Rider was with me through a lot. When I first got him I was single living in a 1 bedroom apartment. He moved 3 apartments with me including when Jeremy & I decided to move in together, and now the house we have been living in since 2009. He never hid, and just wanted to be with you to get attention.
Anyone that stopped by the house was so shocked at how friendly of a cat Rider was. He was a big boy, and a sweetheart. Ever since he passed the house just seems empty, and things have just seemed off.
Then last Thursday I was looking up shelters on Petfinder, and we ended up going to the Collin County Animal Shelter for there Adopt a Cat Month. For Adopt a Cat Month you can adopt a cat for $10 (that includes spay/neuter, rabies, and microchip). Right now they are overcrowded with a ton of animals available for adoption. They had tons of adorable cats/kittens up for adoption. There ended up being a couple we liked, and were thinking about adopting. One of them was one year old and one was two years old. Really wanted one that was different colored from Rider, and was younger than 1 year.
Wanted to say we would adopt the one that was a year old, but there was just something about the one that was two years old. After seeing them put her back in the cage just couldn’t leave her, so we ended up adopting her. Took us a few days to decide on a name for her, but we finally decided on Arya (call her Ari). They say you don’t pick your cat the cat picks you, and they are so right. Arya just came right to us even at the shelter. Just seemed like a good fit.
Since getting Arya has been a lot of adjustments for her, and us. She has a totally different personality than Rider. Arya is very vocal, and likes to get into everything.
Arya is the first cat I have had that I had to get spayed. Have been learning a lot about caring for cats lately. Will share some tips on acclimating a cat to your house, and what to expect when getting your cat spayed soon.
If you are looking for a animal to adopt. Petfinder is a great resource to help find anything you need. Helps you find local shelters or info on adopting a pet.
Still miss Rider everyday, but has helped having another sweet cat to love.
