Not being a person that reads a lot of books it is saying a lot for me to take the time to read a book. Years ago I read The Last Season: A Team in Search of Its Soul by Phil Jackson. The book was a great behind the scenes look at one of the most epic basketball teams from the coach. It was fascinating hearing how Phil dealt with all the big personalities on the team, and that team had pretty much the biggest personalities in the NBA at the time. Phil’s knack for dealing with the players is why his teams won championships, and earned him the nickname “The Zen Master”. Loved the book so much I went to look for more books from Phil to read. While researching Phil I found that he has some of the best quotes. Here are 5 Phil Jackson quotes I found to be inspiring, and motivational.
Leadership is not about forcing your will on others. It’s about mastering the art of letting go.
3.
Yes, victory is sweet, but it doesn’t necessarily make life any easier the next season or even the next day.
4.
When the mind is allowed to relax, inspiration often follows.
5.
If you have a clear mind . . . you won’t have to search for direction. Direction will come to you.
These quotes really illustrate Phil’s zen perspective. The first quote has been my favorite for a while. Love it so much I made it part of my email signature at work. Think it just hits the nail on the head when it comes to teamwork.
Hope these quotes gave you a little motivation or inspiration going into the weekend.
What is your favorite quote?
