Been telling Jeremy for our 5 Year Anniversary on August 16 I wanted no presents just wanted to have fun, and go somewhere. Did not care where just all inclusive, and a beach. Not a lot to ask right? LOL. After asking lots of people, and looking around to figure out where we wanted to go we decided on Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Had heard lots of good things about it, and thought would be fun going somewhere neither of us had been. Ever since we booked the trip I have been looking forward to it, and couldn’t believe it was finally here.
We ended up using American Express Travel for the first time to book this trip, since they did a price match of the lowest fare we found. Thought it was pretty awesome they sent us a complete packet with all our travel info printed and together (Yes I am OCD and love keeping all my travel docs organized when we go).
You will need a Dominican Tourist Card if you are going. You can buy online before you go or get it once you get there. Getting it online just speeds up the process when you go though customs.
The trip did get off to a rocky start with some flight delays (which I have never really run into with American Airlines). Missed our connection in Miami, and were stuck in Miami for the night.
Luckily after talking with American Express & American Airlines we were able to push everything out a day so we didn’t loose any time in Punta Cana just came home a day later.
Will admit we had a hard time deciding on a resort to stay at cause there are so many, and several with good reviews. Ended up picking Majestic Elegance. Was recommended to me by a coworker, and Trip Advisor had good reviews.
The main thing that sold me on it was the Elegance Club they offer. With Elegance Club you get a lot of extra amenities for not a lot of extra money (Think it was like $100 for entire trip). Thought the Elegance Club would just make the anniversary trip even better. These are the extra amenities
– Private pool areas
– Private and personalized check in
– Complementary late check out (based on availability)
– Two private ocean front roof top bars with hors d oeuvres and drinks
– VIP lounge at the lobby with library, table games and free internet connection
– Exclusive access to “Il Botaccio” Restaurant for breakfast and lunch a la carte
– Room service included 24 hours
– In room bar selection with up to 4 bottles of liqueur per stay (ej. Vodka, Whisky, Rum, Baileys)
– Bottle of champagne in room upon arrival
– Access to 13 bars throughout the property (4 bars exclusive for adults)
– Butler service during your stay
– Express bell boy service
– Surprise gift in room
– In room beach towels
– Pillow menu
– Aromatherapy for pillows
– Robes and sleepers in room
– Bath Kit
– DVD’s selection
– In room newspaper
– Majestic Touch during the stay
– Espresso machine in room (suites only)
Will say I am very glad we choose Majestic, and did the Elegance package. The place was gorgeous, and they had a great entertainment crew. When you check in they give you a list of activities/events that will be going on. Pretty much always something going on all day. Best for you to sit down once you get to your room, and decide which activities you want to participate in. Now we did go to the
Beach Party (Buffet on the beach at night, and was just so nice)
Foam Pool Party (Would highly recommend. Good music, and fun. Just don’t take a drink it won’t last)
They had rentals down by the ocean for kayaks, tubes, sailboats, etc. We decided tubing sounded fun, so ended up doing that & had fun. The cost was $30 for 10 minute tube ride. Would suggest f you are going to get a massage do it after the tube right not before, cause you might feel a little beat up. Learned that lesson lol.
Nearly every night we were at the resort we did go to the Coco Club. Only thing we didn’t try out was the French restaurant, and Chinese restaurant. If you go would highly recommend the signature drink the Majestic (was really good!)
They did up our room for our anniversary.
Only excursion we did was the Pirate Ship Cruise that was a show and dinner. It started off slow, but ended up picking up & being a lot of fun. The pirate cruise was defiantly worth the money.
We really didn’t leave the resort at all except to go check out Hard Rock, which was less than 15 minutes away (we actually walked back on the beach to Majestic from Hard Rock). Below is the Hard Rock
Personally I thought Hard Rock looked commercial, and Majestic looked more tropical. Now the Hard Rock did have a nicer, and bigger casino. We thought the Hard Rock may have had a better night life due to the Casino & Club, but were still glad we did the Majestic. Now the humidity was 80% while we were there, so sometimes it was pretty sticky walking around at night. That was the only drawback about the weather.
Would have to say I would pick Punta Cana over going to Mexico like we did for our honeymoon. If I went back I would stay at Majestic again. Just had such a fun great experience. Now I have not stayed at any other resorts, so I can’t speak for the experience at the other resorts. Feel free to comment or message me for any other questions you might have on traveling to Punta Cana.
I mean why wouldn’t you go back the Caribbean is just beautiful
